The most common complaint I hear in this city is "It just rains so much. It's so wet who really cares what I throw on anyways?" Well this is very true but how is it possible that London, England can be voted one of the best dressed cities in the world and share our same grey and drizzly wet weather forecast? I understand when the weather turns who really wants to throw on a nice outfit and heels and head out on the town. However is it really that much easier and more appealing to drag ourselves out of bed in the dark and freezing cold only to grab our gym clothes when we want to go out into the world? I think it is because of London’s same bleak grey weather that their city has turned fashion into an inspirational beacon in making one feel better.
Personally I adore this time of year, not because of the rain but because it gives me a chance to dig out my favorite boots and layer all my clothing. It doesn’t matter how wet it is outside because I know I can wear my boots with anything in my wardrobe without even thinking about it. The other day I decided to wear an outfit that I love which was a black tutu skirt and black top with my black boots, I added a necklace I had made as well as a belt I had bought from a thrift shop. Nothing new. No small fortune was spent but it made me feel like a million bucks. When I was walking down the street on my way to work a man stopped me dead in my track and said, " I just want to say you how cool you look. Love your style lady." I was pretty speechless to say the least, how often does that ever happen in a city? I said thank you and continued into the salon. Soon I noticed he followed me into the salon and approached me. “I was actually coming in here to get a haircut...you don't perhaps cut hair and have time to fit me in do you?" So next thing I know I have a new client sitting in my chair all because my outfit caught his attention. He explained how he was on his way to go get a haircut or a coffee. Now he was having a new hairstyle and a fresh pot of coffee all under one roof.
When someone gives you a compliment it doesn't matter who you are, that would brighten anyone's day. The whole experience taught me that when you wear clothing and styles that make you feel amazing that is when you really look good and you never know who might notice.
